Pre-kindergarten
Philosophy
At
the heart of our prekindergarten philosophy is our Theme Study approach
to curriculum. A theme study is an in-depth focus of a meaningful subject
over several months. The creative arts, science and beginning reading
and math skills are interwoven to help children make sense of the new
concepts they are learning. Some successful theme studies in the past
have included: "The Ocean"; "Things
in the Sky"; "Our
Homes" and "Food Ways". Parents and teachers work together
to provide resources to bring our theme to "life" in the classroom.
What
do we do with prekindergarten children all day?
We play
group and board games; we write stories and then make our own books; we
sing, dance and act out plays; we go on neighborhood walks; we offer encouragement
and guidance; and we support their emerging literacy and math skills.
